Starting Nov. 1, residents will be able to access a new collection of digital resources from the Salinas Public Library on their cell phones, computers, and tablets 24-hours a day.
"We're very pleased to be offering some of the best content and learning material available, and hope residents will take the time to learn about them and get their library card if they don't have one already," says Cary Ann Siegfried, Library & Community Services Director. "While we love to see Salinas residents visit our libraries, in the twenty-first century there is an expectation that many services should be accessed conveniently from home or office, 24/7. We want to be able to provide that level of service to our community."
The new "Digital Branch" includes access to some of the most popular content and subscription services online, including:
· Lynda.com which allows you to "learn a new skill online, on your time." It has over 4000 courses in business, technology and creative skills taught by industry experts for both professionals and students of all ages.
· OverDrive, one of the largest providers of ebooks and audiobooks to public libraries with over a million titles, including New York Times best-sellers. Content can be downloaded to a mobile device and can also be read on many Kindle readers.
· Hoopla which provides access to thousands of movies, television shows, music albums, and audiobooks; users can stream now or download content for later with no overdue fines or fees.
· Zinio, the world's largest newsstand, offers full color, interactive digital magazines. Browse from the collection of popular titles with no holds, no checkout periods, and no limit to the number of magazines you can download.
· RosettaStone which offers structured online language learning lessons using their immersion method to improve reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. This resource includes 30 languages to meet a range of cultural interests.
· Learning Express, a tool to help adults achieve their educational and career goals including High School Equivalency prep and workforce training. It also has programs in Spanish.
· Valueline which helps adults make investment decisions, track stocks and portfolios, and provides instructional videos on a wide range of financial subjects.
· ALLData, a database used by professional mechanics to diagnose and repair cars and trucks sold in the United States since 1982. Get the latest TSBs (technical service bulletins) or Recall Notices for vehicles. Access OEM wiring diagrams, maintenance tables, diagnostic trouble codes, labor estimators, and so much more.
· Academic Search Premier, a multi-disciplinary database of more than 4,600 magazines and journals, including full text for nearly 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. In addition to the full-text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for 8,470 journals.
