City of Salinas Introduces New Police Chief

Salinas, CA -- Salinas City Manager Ray Corpuz today announced his choice of a new police chief to succeed Chief Kelly McMillin, who retires Oct. 1.

She is Adele Fresé (pronounced "fressay"), currently the chief of the Greenfield, California Police Department.

"I'm delighted to introduce Adele Fresé as our next chief," said City Manager Corpuz at a City Hall press conference. "She brings together excellence, experience, local knowledge, and mastery of community-oriented policing, all of which make her a great match for Salinas."

"I'm honored to be entrusted with leading the Salinas Police," said Chief Fresé. "This department has shown it can preserve the best traditions of law enforcement service, while also leading the way in innovations like community-oriented policing."

Chief Fresé has led the Greenfield Police since 2014. From 1994 to 2014, she was with the Corpus Christi, Texas police, rising from patrol officer to commander and deputy chief. Her assignments in Corpus Christi included narcotics, vice, special operations, administration, training, patrol, and crime prevention.

Before becoming a police officer, Chief Fresé was a United States Marine from 1985 until 1992.

She has a Master of Science Degree in Public Safety from Capella University in Minneapolis and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from California State University Hayward, with a specialization in Law Enforcement and a minor in Sociology.

Chief Fresé was born in San Leandro and raised in San Lorenzo. She is married with four children.
