"COPS" to Feature Salinas Police August 20

Salinas, CA -- The Salinas Police Department will be featured on the TV show "COPS" on Saturday, August 20. The episode, titled "Just Hanging Out," is the third in a series of six "COPS" segments that were taped in Salinas last Fall.

The August 20 show is scheduled for 8 p.m. on the Spike TV network. Times vary by cable or satellite provider and viewers should check their listings.

After they debut, "COPS" episodes replay frequently.

During this Saturday's episode, the Salinas officers will be seen interacting with a woman who is very upset about being detained. A preview is available on the "COPS" website at http://www.cops.com/c2911p-2/.

The "COPS" episodes will show viewers, and potential officer candidates, what work is like as a Salinas Police officer.

The Salinas Police are actively recruiting new sworn officers. Women and Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply. More information on current opportunities is available at salinaspd.com/careers.

"COPS" also features a page about SPD at cops.com/tag/salinas-police-department.

About "COPS"

"COPS is an American documentary television series that follows police officers, constables, and sheriff's deputies during patrols and other police activities. It is one of the longest-running television programs in the United States and the second longest-running show on Fox [its home before moving to Spike]. Created by John Langley and Malcolm Barbour, it premiered on Saturday March 11, 1989.

"COPS has followed officers in 140 different cities in the United States, and also has been shot in Hong Kong, London, and the former Soviet Union. Each episode is approximately 22 minutes in length, and typically consists of three segments, with each segment being one or two self- contained police incidents.

"The show is well known for its theme song, 'Bad Boys,' performed by reggae group Inner Circle."
