Free computer classes ---- and computers ---- offered to qualifying families

Salinas, CA -- Salinas Libraries, in collaboration with Loaves, Fishes & Computers, are offering free bilingual computer training to low-income Monterey County families. At the end of the training, each family will receive a free computer.

To qualify for a computer, adults need to attend an orientation and commit to 40 hours of class time over the course of 10 weeks. Space is limited to 20 adults per class. During training, adults will learn computer programs including Microsoft Word, typing skills, and how to use Internet search engines.

In order to enroll in the program, a family must meet the following requirements:
  • Live in Monterey County
  • Commit to 40 hours of computer classes at the Library
  • Fill out a Loaves, Fishes & Computers application
  • Be low-income (on any social services or free/reduced lunch program)
  • Have a school-age child (1-9th grade)
  • Be a bilingual household (both English and Spanish are used in the home)
  • Do not have a functioning or modern computer (Windows 7 or newer) at home or do not have access to it if there is one.

When: Two class options available:
  • August 8 at 10 a.m. at John Steinbeck Library, 350 Lincoln Ave, Salinas. Classes will continue on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
  • August 12 at 10 a.m. at Cesar Chavez Library, 615 Williams Rd, Salinas. Classes will continue on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 a.m.
