Salinas Firefighters "Fill the Boot" for Kids with Muscular Dystrophy
Salinas, CA -- Salinas Firefighters are asking the community to help "fill the boot" with contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The money raised will help local families who are fighting muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related diseases by providing them with resources and support.
Additionally, Fill the Boot will help send local kids with muscular dystrophy to MDA Summer Camp at Westminster Woods in Occidental, CA. At the weeklong camp, young people will be able to have barrier-free fun with activities designed for their abilities from swimming to adaptive sports to arts and crafts, and much more. They will also get to spend time with kids who are just like them. Since 2007 the Salinas Firefighters Association, with the help of Salinas residents, has raised more than $170,000 for MDA to find treatments and cures for muscle-debilitating diseases. The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) began supporting MDA in 1954. Since then, the IAFF has raised more than $583 million for MDA.
