"COPS" to feature Salinas Police Feb. 8
Salinas, CA -- The TV show "COPS" will feature officers of the Salinas Police Department on Monday, Feb. 8, when it broadcasts the first of six "COPS" segments that were taped in Salinas this past fall. The Feb. 8 show starts at 8 p.m. on the Spike TV network. In one of that episode's three parts, viewers will accompany Salinas officers as they pursue and arrest a man armed with a gun. A preview will be available Feb. 1 or 2 on the "COPS" website at cops.com. The next Salinas segment is scheduled for the Saturday, April 30 "COPS" broadcast. The remaining four are planned for the series' next season, whose start date has not yet been announced. After they debut, "COPS" episodes replay frequently. "We're glad people will have an up-close look at what a Salinas Police officer's work is like," said Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin. "We especially hope some good officer candidates will see one of these shows and picture themselves in the same role: helping and protecting people." Backed by Measure G funds, the Salinas Police are recruiting to fill 29 officer openings. The police have a recruiting page at salinaspd.com/careers.
