Mayor Joe Gunter to Address State Water Resources Control Board in Sacramento
Will Join Senator Canella and Assemblyman Alejo
In Discussing Future Water Supply Options
Salinas, CA -- Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter will appear before the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) in Sacramento on Wednesday, May 6 at 9:00 am.
At the SWRCB hearing, Mayor Gunter plans to discuss the current drought, its effect on Salinas, and possible solutions, including desalination. The Mayor will join State Senator Anthony Canella and Assemblyman Luis Alejo in addressing the Board.
The City of Salinas, California Water Services Company, and DeepWater Desal, LLC have a memorandum of understanding to explore the possibility of providing desalinated water from the submarine canyon off Moss Landing to augment the city's water supply.
"The current drought is a reminder of the need for flexibility in developing public policy," said Mayor Gunter. "While taking care to protect the environment, we want to make sure we can explore creative options for ensuring we'll have the water we'll need now and in the future."
The SWRCB hearing will take place at the Cal EPA Building, 10011 I Street, Sacramento.
