Salinas' 2nd "Budget Cafe" Meeting Is Feb 25
Salinas, CA -- Following the passage of Measures G and H, and as part of an ongoing priority-based budget process, the City of Salinas is consulting with residents face-to-face and online.
The City will hold a second community budget meeting at Los Padres School on February 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. It follows a similar meeting held January 27 at Sherwood Hall.
Meanwhile a web survey remains available for those who want to participate online.
The upcoming meeting, to be moderated again by Public Works Director Gary Petersen, will follow a "world cafe" format: small groups will sit at round tables to hear news, share ideas and propose priorities for the coming fiscal year.
Meeting details follow:
- Date: Wednesday, February 25
- Time: 6:30 - 8:30 pm
- Location: Los Padres Elementary School, Multi-Purpose Room (Gymnasium), 1130 John Street, Salinas
- Admission: Free
- RSVP (requested but not required): bit.ly/salinas-meeting-2-25-15
- Spanish translation: Provided.
The survey, which can be completed in as little as a minute, is available now at bit.ly/salinas-budget-survey (a link to a Spanish version is included).
In 2013 and 2014, the City conducted a series of meetings and surveys to inform both the 2014-15 budget and the designs of Measures G and H, which voters approved last November 4. Participants identified 19 top priorities, most of which clustered into four categories: public safety, economic development, infrastructure and quality of life.
Through this year's meetings and the accompanying survey, residents are invited to have their say again, now that the new revenue measures are in place and updated spending decisions need to be made.
The City has adopted priority-based budgeting, including close community involvement, because it directs limited resources where they will have the most meaningful impact. More information on priority-based budgeting is available at pbbcenter.org.
