 Happy Spring Everyone!

Greetings:
Welcome Spring!  The days are longer and the weather is absolutely beautiful.  It's times like these that I can reflect on being grateful for the blessings I have in my life.  I think about those who are working and caring for their aging parents.  Statistics show there are 44 million unpaid caregivers in the United States and the majority are women.  And yet there are few support programs in place to support these family caregivers many of whom are struggling at work and at home.  Working family members often find they need to switch to a less demanding job, take time off, or quit work altogether in order to make time for their caregiving duties.  As a result, they suffer loss of wages and risk losing their benefits such as health insurance, retirement savings, and Social Security Benefits.
These same caregivers are expected to live well into their mid 80's and outlive the average man.  How will they afford their own care later in life if they can't save for it at midlife while they are caring for someone else?  These are not easy questions and the answers are not readily available.
Just remember that Touching Hearts Senior Care is here to help.  Whether you need education, resources or respite care, we can provide the support you need to care for your loved one and care for yourself.

If you have any questions about selecting a professional in-home care company vs. a private duty/self-employed caregiver, please feel free to contact me.  gina@touchingheartsseniorcare.com

TRACEY'S CORNER

Affirmation of the Month:
I am not a product of my circumstances, I am a product of my decisions.
Joke of the Month:
"C'mon Ma you have got to try it" I pleaded to my elderly Mother. I don't know how my Mother lasted this long without ever using the internet, but enough was enough! I thought.
"Ok" she said reluctantly settling down by the computer and slowly putting on her reading glasses "what do I do now?"
"Now I'm going to open the home page of google", I explained. "OK here it is! Now type in ANY question you want into the bar over here and you will find an answer to your question." I confidently assured her.
My Mother looked at me warily, thought for a second, and slowly began to type,
How is Gertrude doing this morning?
Random Acts of Kindness
If you know someone who takes care of a friend or loved one, then you know someone who could probably use a lift. The following is list of suggestions of little things you can do to lift the spirits of someone in need.
Cook a meal and deliver it to a homebound friend.
Write a letter telling someone how you admire and respect them.
Gather a group of friends and decorate the house for the holidays.
Bake a plate of cookies. Offer to share and chat.
Help rake the leaves, clean the gutters or cut the grass.
Buy a gift card to a favorite restaurant or offer to take out for a bite to eat.
Send some flowers for a particularly trying day.
Pick up a couple days worth of groceries and deliver them to the house.
Email tracey@touchingheartsseniorcare.com and tell me of your favorite random acts of kindness.
