Why Waldorf?
|
Master teacher, experienced administrator, and parent of five Kathleen Young has been mentoring our teachers at Ashwood Waldorf School for many years. On Monday evening, November 4, Kathleen met with parents and staff to put Waldorf education in context, and, as far as possible, "in a nutshell." The evening was lively, and several parents volunteered to continue the conversation at a later date with an eye to becoming advocates for the school in our wider community. More

Stay Informed: Attend a Board Q&A Session
Another big thank you to all who participated in and all who attended Planapalooza II. Click here for the minutes, so adroitly scribed by the nimble fingers of Maria Northcott. Also, click here for a list of all Board and subcommittee members and their contact information. In addition, Jen Lavi and Betty Wyman are the current co-chairs of the PCC. If you would like to join a committee (join the fun!), or just have a question, please contact the person noted on the list.
The Strategic Planning Committee has met and reviewed all the questions posed at Planapalooza II. Questions not answered that night will be addressed in one-on-one conversation, via email or in upcoming PCC or committee meetings. The tentative meeting schedule is:
- November 20, PCC Meeting, 8:45-10:45 a.m.: Board Members Annie Mahle and Betsy Morrell will answer questions asked at the Planapalooza II and in the PCC survey about Board membership, Board transparency, PCC "representation" on the board and other questions on this topic.
- December 18, PCC Meeting, 6-8 p.m.: Board members (to be announced) will answer questions on tuition assistance. Last year, at the request of many parents, we held a meeting on the school budget creation process, setting tuition and tuition assistance. If there is interest, we will update and repeat this presentation.
- February PCC Meeting or another evening meeting time to be announced: Permaculture introduction by Jesse Labbe-Watson.
- The Buildings & Grounds Committee (date to be announced) will hold a meeting to present and receive input on future driveway and parking configurations that will impact the master planning process and how permaculture plays a role in this discovery process.
If you have any questions or comments about any of these topics please come to the meetings and/or contact a committee chair to arrange an alternate meeting time.

Lantern Walk
Families in the Early Childhood program and the First and Second Grades are getting ready for the annual Lantern Walk on Friday, November 15 from 4:15-5:30 p.m. This is a tradition in many Waldorf schools around the world. The children make lanterns out of their watercolor paintings, a candle is placed within, and we carry them on a short walk together through the forest. The theme is centered around carrying the light into the cold nights of winter ahead, and is portrayed through a legend of St. Martin, a French knight from long ago. It will be wonderful to celebrate this occasion together.
