Rotary's KenDUCKY Derby Results

Soggy Bottom Duck was the first place winner of Augusta Rotary Club's bi-annual Duck Derby on July 25 held at Parker's Duckland near the mouth of Big Bracken Creek in Augusta.

Fifteen live ducks paddled the wet course, as many spectators, including Rotarians from other clubs, lined the creekbank to cheer on their favorite duck.

Soggy Bottom Duck surged out of the pack after early leaders Quacker Barrel and Givin' Me a Heart Aquack faltered down the stretch.

The race commissioner was Kentucky State Representative and Maysville Rotarian Mike Denham, who inspected the ducks before the race and declared all fit to paddle.  Local favorites Pat Feagan and Brandi Courtney provided music and everyone sang "My Old Kentucky Home" before post-time.

Chief duck trainer Allison Parker said:  "It was a great race on a great day.  Everyone had a lot of fun watching the ducks swim towards the finish line. "

A live auction using Duck Bucks was held after the race for donated prizes.  Proceeds will go towards paying for a new digital carillon that the club has ordered.

The Duck Derby is an Augusta Rotary Club tradition, started back in the early 1970s, and re-introduced in 2011.

Honorary Rotarian

One of the highest honors a community member can receive from Rotary is the
Honorary Member Award. Pictured above is Cheryl J. McGraw, President, conveying Honorary Membership to Linda Watterson. "Her dedication to our community service programs has been invaluable and we are proud she has been selected for this recognition," McGraw states.
