The adrenal glands change size throughout life. The adrenal glands, lying right above the kidneys, are responsible for releasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. In the seventh month of a fetus' development, the glands are roughly the same size as the kidneys. At birth, the glands have shrunk slightly and will continue to do so throughout life. In fact, by the time a person reaches old age, the glands are so small they can hardly be seen.

Hemostasis Monitoring Microdevice
Detects Deadly Blood Clots
Scientists at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University have devised a better assay for testing blood's clotting tendency, also known as hemostasis, which could one day prove lifesaving in a variety of clinical situations in which a patient's health is jeopardized by abnormal blood coagulation and platelet function.
First Biointegrated Sensors for Long-Term Continuous Body Chemistry Monitoring
Biointegrated sensors for long-term, continuous tracking of body chemistry may make health and disease monitoring as easy as turning on your smart phone. Unveiled today by Profusa, Inc., of South San Francisco, Calif., tiny bioengineered biosensors will soon enable real-time detection of our body's unique chemistry...
MIT researchers have developed a new electrochemical method that harvests energy from everyday motions, like walking or running. A small but near continuous amount of electricity is generated by motion to be used in biomedical, mechanical or environmental industries. The technology used for the device is comparable to that of lithium ion batteries, ultimately reducing production costs on a large scale.
Stanford researchers have developed the first lithium-ion battery that shuts down before overheating, then restarts immediately when the temperature cools. The new technology could prevent the kind of fires that have prompted recalls and bans on a wide range of battery -powered devices, from recliners and computers to navigation systems and hoverboards.
