Affton & Bayless Come Together for Charity

On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Affton Cougars and Bayless Bronchos came together for the First Annual Bayless vs. Affton Faculty Basketball Game, which benefitted the Thomas Boley Fund. Many thanks to the over 1,400 people who came out for the event, and helped make it a huge success!

In addition to the action on the court, a faculty tug-of-war was held, along with dance performances from AHS cheerleaders and Dance Team, as well as Affton and Bayless faculty, and Affton High School National Honor Society held an airplane throwing contest. Affton toppled Bayless in the tug of war, and Bayless won the basketball game with a final score of 72-40.

However, the biggest accomplishment of the night was the overwhelming support for Thomas Boley and his family. Just over $4,000 was raised that evening, and will be donated to the Thomas Boley Fund.

Dan Oliver Named Coach of the Year

On Jan. 20, the Affton Board of Education recognized Dan Oliver, athletic director and head football coach, for having been named the 2014 Suburban Central American Division Coach of the Year by the St. Louis Suburban Public High School Athletic and Activities Association.

In addition, Oliver was presented with a resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives, offered by Rep. Genise Montecillo (District 092) and Rep. Bob Burns (District 093), for this accomplishment. A second resolution was presented that same evening to the Affton High School football team and coaching staff for their record breaking 12-1 season. To read more, click here.

Affton Strong Student of the Month

This school year we will once again be recognizing one Affton student each month for the things that make them Affton Strong, both in and out of school. Our Affton Strong Student of the Month for January is:

Elise Connoley - Gotsch Intermediate

Elise is a fourth-grader at Gotsch Intermediate School and is proud to be Affton Strong! "Not only is Elise a great student, she exemplifies all of the character education traits," said Marquita Heggins, fourth grade teacher at Gotsch, "I can always count on her to be a positive role model in and out of the classroom."

AHS Senior Scores 1,000th Point

On Friday, Jan. 16, Paige Black, a senior at Affton High School and guard for the varsity girls basketball team, accomplished 1,000 points scored in her high school athletic career. The game was against Jennings High School, and Black reached 1,000 points in the third quarter of the game on a three-pointer.

"Scoring 1,000 points is a tremendous accomplishment. It is a product of all the hard work Paige has put into improving herself," said Kevin Werner, head coach of the Affton High School varsity girls basketball team. "She has increased her scoring in all of the four years she has played on the team and has become one of the top scorers in the area. We are proud of her and look forward to watching her the rest of this year and her future years in college."
