Rams Pride Visits Second Grade at Mesnier
Ms. Wickey Nominated For Being a Great Teacher

Ms. Wickey's second grade class at Mesnier Primary received a special visit on Friday from St. Louis Rams cheerleaders and Rampage, the team's mascot. Dr. Steve Brotherton, superintendent, also made a special appearance to get the class excited for their guests.

One of her students, Mitchell Been, nominated Ms. Wickey for a Rams Pride Classroom Visit. In his essay, he said that Ms. Wickey is "very nice and a great teacher."  The class was treated to a fun morning, including games, dancing, and prizes. Read more and see pictures and a video here.

AHS Students Attend MO Scholars Academy
Brooke Brust & Adis Terzic Enjoy Learning Community

This summer, two Affton High School students attended Missouri Scholars Academy (MSA), a three-week program for gifted students, on the University of Missouri's campus.  While at the MSA, students live on campus and are exposed to a liberal arts curriculum, a variety of extracurricular activities, and a community that is focused on learning.

Read more about Brooke Brust's and Adis Terzic's experience here.

Teachers Participate in District-Wide PD
Professional Development Valuable to Teachers & Students
While students had the day off on Fri, August 30, teachers and staff throughout the district were collaborating and learning together. From Continuous Classroom Improvement to Google Apps for Education, training in ELL to Writer's Workshop, and more, grade-levels, departments and schools were gaining and sharpening tools that will help make us even Affton Strong(er). View an album of photos from the day here.
AHS Seniors Attend Missouri Girls State
Jessica Reed & Paige Smith Selected for Honor

Two Affton High School seniors spent a week at the American Legion Auxiliary Missouri Girls State program immersed in learning the ins and outs of the life of a state legislator, holding political conventions, and listening to speakers from various levels of local, county and state government. Jessica Reed (pictured at left) and Paige Smith were selected on their leadership abilities, interest in government, service to others, and academics during their junior year at Affton High School. Read more about Jessica and Paige here.
