Deliver Us From Evil:
A New York Cop Investigates The Supernatural
by Ralph Sarchie is hands down the most frightening book I have ever read, so let the reader beware. Sarchie is a veteran NYPD cop who patrols the infamously violent 46th precinct in the South Bronx, so he does not spook easily. His other job he calls "the Work" involves investigating the supernatural . . . often involving shocking cases of demonic possession and exorcisms (I warned you). This is a true story that takes a sobering look at the presence of evil. The book was also the basis of a 2014 movie starring Eric Bana as Sarchie, which is also available at the library.
