Christine's Library Staff Pick:

 Longbourn

chris cramer

"If Elizabeth Bennet had the washing of her own petticoats, Sarah thought, she would be more careful not to tramp through muddy fields." So begins the story of Longbourn by Jo Baker.  In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen wrote about the Bennets and their loves and sorrows. Jo Baker has written a novel filled with suspense and sympathy for the lives of the servants who kept the Bennet household running. We walk through the kitchen door into a parallel world of maids, cooks, footmen, and stable hands. We see the physical hardness of daily work while they build relationships, loves, and passions. I recommend this book (especially audio book version) for anyone who can't get enough of Downton Abbey or Jane Austen.
