HELP PACK THE ROOM

Joint Health & Budget Committee Hearing

Thursday, February 28

State Capitol Building, Room 4202

In response to providers' concerns with the policy change for hearing aids, effective for dates of service on or after January 15, 2013, the Joint Health & Budget Committee has scheduled a hearing on Feb. 28, in the late morning in Room 4202.  The exact time is not definite because the hearing will begin after conclusion of floor session and leadership meeting.  We estimate that the hearing aid item will be heard first.

HHP member Amnon Shalev, along with others, will testify at the hearing. We need your help to show support.  Therefore we are asking the Hearing Healthcare Community help us pack the room. We are also seeking a provider in the Sacramento area who may have a patient willing to testify before the committee. Please contact Heather Vigil at hvigil@amgroup.us or Ellyse Dill at edill@amgroup.us for more information.

Medi-Cal Provider Survey
Re Opened
Please Participate if you haven't responded.

HHP previously requested our Medi-Cal provider members take part in a survey being conducted by the California Academy of Audiology (CAA).  The survey is a joint effort to collect data regarding the impact of the new hearing aid reimbursement policy (effective January 15, 2013) on Medi-Cal/CCS providers and their patients. Please take a minute to answer these 15 questions.

The survey is opened back up.  We need more responses from the provider community.  If you haven't already responded, please take the time to do so now.

ALL DATA WILL BE USED TO PREPARE A RESPONSE TO THE MEDI-CAL POLICY CHANGE, AND NO INDIVIDUAL RESPONSES WILL BE IDENTIFIABLE.

We thank you in advance for your participation.

The initial survey results are available.

Support IHS "Fit to Serve" Campaign

Dear HHP Members:

Two weeks ago I asked for your support for IHS' "Fit to Serve" campaign, which is aimed at permitting hearing aid specialists to serve Veterans, as providers through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Just a few reasons why we believe now is the time:

  • There has been national attention on the backlog of Veterans in need of disability evaluations
  • Cases of hearing loss and tinnitus among the military and Veterans are on the rise
  • Many Veterans are fed up with the outdated policies of the VA, which are not serving their needs well
  • We have a strong lobbying team in place, which includes a former high-ranking VA offical, as well as a PR team who will lead us in building a groundswell among Veterans and providers

IHS knows hearing aid specialists are able and want to help their local Veterans;
we can help fill the need.

We are committed to this effort and ask for your support.  We anticipate this effort will cost $115,000 in 2013, and we need your help to be able to implement this campaign.  Please take a couple minutes to make your donation today online or download a donation form.

If successful, hearing aid specialists will be able to serve our nation's Veterans. I can't think of a more worthy cause.

I invite you to contact Alissa Parady, IHS Government Affairs Manager and Fit to Serve strategist, at aparady@ihsinfo.org or 571-212-8596 with questions or comments.

With gratitude,

Tom Higgins, ACA, BC-HIS
IHS President

Veteran, US Navy
