Year Round

Greetings!

Fall will officially be here on Monday!  The cool air has settled in for the time being; the weather is predicted to feel like summer by the end of the weekend.  So we should have a weekend that satisfies everyone.

It's been a bit chilly on the farm this morning.  Sandy and Hannah are busy packing grapes, bundled in sweatshirts (Hannah's wearing two!), while Diane is enjoying her favorite combo -- shorts and a sweatshirt.  And Mary Margaret is diligently working on her flower arrangements in a winter hat and scarf.
We have some very appropriate fall announcements today to continue with the season!

We'll see you at Market!

Winter CSA Enrollment Now OPEN!
Plus learn about the new 'A La Carte' Winter Produce Delivery Program
We are now accepting applications for our Winter CSA! Winter CSA members will pick-up a box filled with produce on a bi-weekly basis.  They'll receive items such as apples, pears, cider, onions, potatoes, winter squash, veggies and more!  Deliveries will be made to Vienna and Lorton, VA and Washington, DC (14 & V St. NW).  There will be a sample box at the Farmers Market this weekend, so be sure to check it out!

We are also launching the 'A La Carte' Program (formerly known as the 'Monthly Apple Delivery').
We will be emailing customers through our Farmers Market Newsletter (what you're reading now) and letting them know what is available for purchase through our Web Store.  Different from the Monthly Apple Delivery, you can order on a bi-weekly basis and you can purchase smaller volumes.  (Of course, if you want to purchase a box of apples, they are still available in the Web Store.)  Feel free to check out what we are anticipating to sell in the Web Store.

The first deliveries for the Winter CSA and A La Carte start
November 8 for Vienna
November 22 for Lorton
December 6 for DC
And continue through the end of April just in time for markets to start again in May.

All of the details are on our website:

What's Up with Fall Peaches
We will be bringing one of our fall peach varieties to market this weekend.  Their names are 'Victoria' and 'Autumn Glo."

Late season peaches tend to be a firmer peach naturally.  So if you are accustomed to "the squeeze test" to determine the ripeness, do not be deterred.  These peaches will be firm but still ripe and flavorful.  And the blush is the prettiest yet this year.

We hope to bring peaches to market for another two weeks.  And the timing is perfect because this is what we all feel like by the end of peach season....just ready to curl up in a peach bin (as Sidney is demonstrating here!).

Heirloom Pumpkins, Gourds & Mini Pumpkins....Oh My!
It is time to start decorating your porch, front stoop and interior for fall.  And we have you covered!  As Anthony likes to say, "We have a pile of pumpkins!"  The laborious task of pumpkin planting has paid off.  We planted 2,500 pumpkin plants this year (wow!) and we've only skimmed the top.

We have lots of unique heirloom pumpkin varieties and many of them are edible too.  We have mini pumpkins and gourds which are perfect for kids to decorate or to dress up a table or mantel.

We look forward to seeing you at the Farmers Market!
