Year Round

The flooded roads are clear and the forecast is calling for some awesome weekend weather!  Ditch the rainboots and umbrellas and come to the market.

Enjoy the sunshine, cool cider, sample all of our apple varieties and pick up some tender tips of asparagus to throw on the grill!

We'll see you at market!!

Boxes of Fuji SPECIAL
We hope to continue bringing our GoldRush and Pink Lady apples to market for another month, but we have LOADS of Fuji apples...So, we are offering a Fuji Special.

old phone
Pre-order a box of Fuji apples for just $25.00 (regular price is $33.00).  You may call us at 717-334-2722 to place an order, or you may place your order online.

We will be honoring this special until June 11th.

Remember, it is always best to store your apples in the refrigerator in the crisper drawer.  Yes, it's pretty to keep them in a bowl or basket on the counter top.  But for apples to stay crisp, juicy and flavorful, you should always store them in the fridge.

Modern Day Scarecrow
Last year in Pop's Perspective, Dave talked about our love-hate relationship with cherries.  While cherry harvest is a ways-away, we  are always thinking how to save the crop.

Birds are a #1 lover of cherries.  In the past, we have put up colorful balloons, bird netting, and reflective streamers to deter birds from nibbling on the cherries.

This year we are trying a modern day scarecrow, aka an Air Dancer or Wacky Waving Arm Man!  We are currently testing it out in the strawberries which the birds love to peck at too.

Dave has always said that since our farm is in the middle of town, that our wildlife has become domesticated and do not fear anything.  The random movement of the Air Dancer is keeping the birds at bay for now.  Let's hope the birds don't figure it out!

Whatcha Munchin' is Back!
Last year we started a feature in our newsletter called "Whatcha Munchin'?"  We've asked our farmers market employees what produce they enjoy eating most.  In the left hand menu of the newsletter, you may see some familiar faces from market.  See what your favorite market employee enjoys munchin' on!

Honeyberries
Honeyberries, aka Hascaps, will be making their first appearance at market this year.  Honeyberries are in the Honeysuckle family.  They are a soft berry with the color and texture of a very ripe blueberry, but with an oblong shape.  Don't let their name fool you though....their flavor is very tart.  If you enjoy Gooseberries or Currants, this is a new fruit for you!
Honeyberries are a superfruit and high in antioxidants.  They are good eaten fresh, but you can also process them to make jams, sauces, or juice them with other fruits and vegetables.

Since our production is just getting started this year, not all of our markets will have Honeyberries.  If you have a special interest in them, please speak with a Kuhn Orchards market employee, and we can take an order for you.
They look like Blue Italian Plums...

...But they are just super small.
We look forward to seeing you at the Farmers Market!
