Greetings!
September is an awesome time of year at the farmers market. "Why??" you might ask. Because you can munch your way through market as we are sampling so many awesome fruits! Peaches and Nectarines are still rolling in, and the Redgold Nectarines especially have a spectacular flavor. We will have 3 varieties of plums for the next few weeks, but then they will be all finished for the year.
We are bringing 7 varieties of apples to market (and we are harvesting more each week!). Including.... HONEYCRISP!!
Plus, we are pressing our first batch of fall cider this morning. So be sure to try a sample and pick up a jug this weekend. The blend is be Gala, Elstar and McIntosh.
So your plans for the weekend are:
- have a light breakfast
- definitely enjoy that cup of joe
- come on out to the farmers market
- sample our summer and fall fruits, and find a new favorite for you and your family!
We'll see you at market!! |
| Special Buys: Redgold Nectarines, Cherry Tomatoes and Seedless Grapes |
We have a number of specials that we are offering this week.
1) Redgold Nectarines.
We came home from all 7 of our weekend farmers market with maybe 10 individual Redgold Nectarines. People gobbled them up! Well, we have a lot of Redgold Nectarines, and we thought maybe people would want a box. We will accept PRE-ORDERS for Redgold Nectarines for $25 for a half bushel box (normally they are $39.00), and there are about 25 lbs in a box. Please place your order by calling the office: 717-334-2722.
2) "Tufurs" on Cherry Tomatoes. When I first started working on the farm, everyone kept saying "tufurs." I nodded my head confused, and finally asked "What is a tufur?!" Then Mary Margaret and Sidney clearly said "Two for."
Oh. I get it!
It's a "two for $" special when we have a crop abundance. All markets will have a "tufur" $4.00 special on our half pints of cherry tomatoes. So, when you hear a Kuhn Orchards market employee say "Tufur Special," now you know!
3) "Tufurs" on Seedless Grapes. Our seedless table grapes (and our seeded grapes, for that matter) have awesome flavor; they are far superior to any grape on the supermarket shelf. Since we have lots of Seedless Grapes, we are offering a "tufur" $6.00 special.
4) Mix & Match Special on Blackberries and Raspberries. We've been offering this special for a number of weeks now. You can buy a pint of Blackberries and a half pint of Raspberries for $9.00. Production will gradually slow down as cooler weather approaches, but we will have berries for a number of weeks yet.

Honeycrisp are in the stand!!
|
For those who stayed in town and shopped at the farmers market over Labor Day Weekend, you had a little surprise! Honeycrisp were front and center under the Kuhn Orchard's tent!
We have talked about making a red carpet runway for the first week of Honeycrisp (and maybe invite a few paparazzi to attend market too!). But have never actually gotten around to doing that. So this make-shift photo will just have to do! We have a number of other great apple varieties: Kid Size Gala - perfect for the lunch box Gingergold - after this weekend, we probably won't have any more Blondee - a yellow skinned Gala with the same great flavor, but a denser bite Elstar - a green and red bi-colored apple with a zingy flavor Smokehouse - a rich flavor; classic for making applesauce McIntosh - a favorite among New Englanders, but our PA apples aren't quite as tart as those grown further north Like we said earlier, their are plenty of samples at market, so be sure to try them all, and come back each week because you're sure to find something new! |
|
We look forward to seeing you at the Farmers Market!
