Year Round

Greetings!

Happy First Day of Summer!  And the timing couldn't be better! This week at market, we will start to carry our sweet cherries, raspberries, red currants, blueberries and a few blackberries! While our pickings are still very small, if you want some of these summer-time gems, be sure to shop at market early. And if you miss them this weekend, don't fret; we will have oodles of them throughout the summer!  We will be bringing tart cherries to market next week.

SummerFallCSA
There is still plenty of space for new members of the Summer/Fall CSA.  Check out the details and if you have any questions, we'll be happy to talk to you at market about the CSA.

We'll see you at market!!

Cherries:  It's a love-hate relationship
View our videos on YouTubeThis week Dave is talking about our love-hate
relationship with cherries.  Yes, we love eating them, and so do you...and the birds do too!

Take a look at our two cherry orchards with Dave.  Learn about why we have a light crop this year, why is it important for us to install bird netting, and how and why we try to control the size of our cherry trees.

 Leeks & their "How To's"
Leeks are a great summer vegetable.  Many times when people hear leeks, they quickly think "potato leek soup.  Seeing that summer is pretty much here, soup may not be your go-to.  You can do lots of things with leeks.  Pretty much anytime you would use an onion, a leek is a good substitute.  Try grilling or roasting them whole; they make a very pleasant presentation too.  Or cook and puree a few to add to your garlic scape pesto!

But if soup is right up your alley....go for it!  You can make a creamy potato leek soup, or go the lighter route with a chicken stock based soup.  If you want to go Scottish, try making Cock a Leekie Soup (plus, its super fun to say!).

To make your broth super rich and leeky, prepare the leeks, but save the dark green tops.  The tops are definitely too fibrous to eat, but they still have great flavor.  Keep them whole and add them to your stock; remove and discard before serving.
We look forward to seeing you at the Farmers Market!
