Speed Remodeling:
How to Add 3BRs + 2BAs in 6 Weeks
A home addition is a great way to expand your living space. But a traditional addition (one built completely on site) can take five months or more – much of which you might not be able to live in your home. That's why more and more of our clients are choosing a different way to remodel: custom modular additions.
Modular Additions: Built stronger, faster and sensibly green
We've been building modular additions for years now because it's such an efficient way to remodel without compromising creativity, design or quality. In fact, because of the way today's modules are engineered, you get high-quality design features, materials and fixtures (including eco-friendly ones) and workmanship. Best of all, you get to live in your beautiful addition faster and for a potentially lower budget compared to a site-built addition.

We've found that modular additions are a particularly good solution for older homes in our area that lack a second story. In as little as six weeks, we can add a "pop-top" modular second-story addition with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Now, usually it takes us a little longer than six weeks. As the fresh new space starts to take shape, many homeowners ask us to focus a little TLC on the existing home – refinishing floors, upgrading the existing baths or kitchen, or modernizing the mechanical systems. These "while you're here" upgrades do add time.
Even so, we recently delivered a beautifully customized modular addition in 11 weeks, start to finish. Adding the same square footage with a 100% site-built approach likely would have taken eight months.
We don't just “drop a box” on your house
When many people hear the word "modular," they think of a big, bland box. That's just not the case today. Modules come in so many styles and with so many features, including high-end fixtures and finishes. Still, "design" is part of our name. That's why we do like to blend the module with the rest of the house.

This blending can include adding site-built features. For instance, on the front of the home, we might add design elements such as corbels and brackets and architectural elements such as dormers, a porch or a portico. On the side, we could add bay windows, and on the back a screened porch.
Of course, it really depends on the house and the budget. But the bottom line is this: when you start with a modular addition, you get a head start on how quickly you'll be able to enjoy your new living space and you get more features and more quality for less money.
The photos in this article give you an idea of the "before and after." We also have a short video showing one of our modular additions getting lifted into place.

The rendering below shows what the completed project will look like. We expect to have it available for a Fall delivery, so contact us if you'd like more information.

Maintenance Tip: Clear the Air
If you turn off the bathroom exhaust fan as soon as you step out of the shower (or don't use a fan at all), you've got a mold and mildew problem just waiting to happen. Turn on the fan before you start the water running and leave it on for 20 minutes after you turn off the shower, so that it has enough time to clear the moisture out of the air. If you think you'll always forget to turn it off, installing an exhaust fan with a timer is a good investment in your indoor air quality.
