Analyzing Your Point of View with Points
of View Reference Center Banned books.
Airbrushing in advertising.
Concussions in pro sports.
Agricultural subsidies.
Those are just a few of the topics included in Points of View Reference Center (POV), offered new this year through INFOhio at no charge to Ohio schools.
With thousands of articles, transcripts, and primary source documents supporting all sides of hundreds of controversial issues, POV is an essential tool in teaching middle and high school students argumentation and critical thinking.
In addition to the raw materials for research, Points of View helps students think through thorny issues and learn to separate valid arguments from spurious or even fallacious ones.
Key features include the following:
- An Overview, a Point, and a Counterpoint essay on each of more than 100 controversial subjects drawn from current events, science, social issues, economics, and sports
- A Guide to Critical Analysis for each subject that guides students in separating fact from opinion
- Questions that encourage students to analyze their positions more carefully and spark classroom debate
- Access to thousands of related additional journal articles, newspaper articles, TV and radio transcripts, and primary source documents
- Comprehensive bibliographies on each subject that guide further research
- Access to the Points of View Debate Blog, which gives students a forum for expressing and comparing their views with students around the country
