As Pathway Homes continues to embrace changes in the residential supportive service landscape, we continually seek methods and innovations that ensure quality care for individuals currently receiving services. At the same time, we remain committed to finding ways to meet the needs of those on our wait list. Currently serving over 400 individuals in 174 properties throughout Northern Virginia, we are excited to see how the housing and supports we provide are creating the foundation for recovery for many individuals. Pathways staff and consumers know, however, there is still much to be done. Many of those we serve still have friends and family in need of residential supportive services, so they have a strong desire to work with our staff to tap into resources that help us meet the needs of the more than 500 individuals who remain on our wait list. As I work with our Board of Directors and staff, I see individuals who are determined to find solutions to the unmet needs of those we currently lack the funding to serve. I see amazing progress every day in terms of consumer recovery and agency capacity. For this reason, it is extremely validating to announce that Pathway Homes was awarded the 2013 Virginia Governor's Award for the "Best Housing Program or Service" in the state during the Governor's Housing Conference held in Norfolk on November 21. We received this award for our creation of a unique consumer-directed model launched in one home in 2011 and now implemented in three Pathways homes. I want to recognize the resolve and thoughtfulness of the Pathways board, staff, and consumers responsible for the development and success of this critical innovation in our approach to meeting the needs of those we are honored to serve every day. I applaud your contributions and determination to succeed even in the face of shrinking resources and increased need, and I look forward to another year of partnering and innovation.
Sincerely,
Sylisa Lambert-Woodard, EdD, LCSW, LSATP, MAC

In Her Own Words: My Peace of Mind
By: Yvonne Elliot
My name is Yvonne. I currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment in Springfield, VA with a roommate I get along with. I have been homeless before and I know what it's like to be homeless, so Pathways is a real blessing to me. I come from a poor family. My father was a car sales man and an alcoholic who was never home so my mother had to take care of us. My long time girlfriends from kindergarten introduced me to drugs and alcohol when I was only 13 years old.
