The Newport Boat Show was Excellent!
The boat show season begins with Newport and this year's show lived up and perhaps passed expectations. Some 603 exhibitors, a large showing of sailboats and powerboats, over 16 Acres of displays, 5 tents and a great vibe! The not-so-hidden gem of the show was the water shuttle to the Newport Shipyard and the brokerage show. This year the brokerage show featured 100 sail and motor yachts 40' to 140' on display. Just being at the shipyard, among the megayachts is a show onto itself! The essence of the show is shown in this video from our friends at Soundings online... HEREWe're looking forward to Norwalk and Annapolis continuing a great 2016 boat show season!

Restoring Execution Lighthouse
Inspired by a passion for the preservation of lighthouses, Historically Significant Structures, Inc. was established to restore and preserve the Execution Rocks Light Station. They plan to operate this historical destination for the public to enjoy and to educate children and adults about our maritime heritage and culture. Currently they are offering "tower climbs" to experience the lighthouse (the last one for the year is this Sunday) and plan to offer the lighthouse as a venue for birthday parties and weddings. They also currently offer overnight stays (with cots and air mattress provided - bring your own sleeping bag, food and water). The lighthouse is accessible from Port Washington via the Port Water Taxi.
Please see their website and consider donating to save this beautiful and historical lighthouse.

The Autumnal Equinox Arrived at 10:21 am Today
The autumn equinox arrived today at 10:22 am, officially marking the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and the start of spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
An equinox is a geometrical alignment between the sun and Earth in which the sun appears positioned right above our planet's equator. On these days, both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres experience roughly equal amounts of sunshine. It's also only on the spring and autumn equinoxes that the sun rises due east and sets due west.
As we head toward December, the Northern Hemisphere will tilt farther away from the sun and receive its rays at a steeper angle, creating longer shadows and cooler conditions indicative of winter. Eventually, the sun will reach its lowest point in the midday sky, marking the December solstice. _____________________
