Whales Sighted Again This Week in the Sound!

Just as last year's banner "crop" of menhaden bait fish and blues attracted whales to the Sound, the whales this summer are much, much larger, as big as 60 feet according to some reports.

Remember, you must stay at least 100 feet away from any whale (or seal) and if they come close to your boat, put the engine in neutural and coast to a stop.  If you see large schools of bait fish, birds circling above the water or strange bubbles on the surface, you're too close! The whales will circle the schools of bait fish blowing bubbles to create a "containing wall" of bubbles. They then come up from below with their huge jaws open, swallowing hundreds of fish.

Take care not to disturb them and SLOW DOWN if they are in the area (keep your radio on to channel 16).
