The WALK Bridge Strikes Again!
The Norwalk Metro North / Amtrak (WALK) bridge failed again last Saturday when trying to open for a sailboat. It seems the movable center swing tracks expanded in the 90 degree sunshine and were jammed closed and once opened, jammed again when closing. Rail Traffic was halted for six hours and it took until Sunday morning for trains to return to the regular schedule.
A test opening was conducted yesterday in the middle of the night to see if the bridge could resume opening for boats. We'll see what the test results were shortly. Meanwhile if you have a boat upstream... good luck!

Rex & Norwalk Cove are hosting a "virtual" fishing contest.
(Virtual as in "please don't bring fish in to be weighed" !!)
The contest is based on the honor system: Catch a fish, ID it, weigh it, take a selfie while measuring and either release (greatly encouraged) or keep for eating. Please include angler name and where it was caught. Weight is important and will be the primary method of judging. The catch must be made in the Sound between Throggs Neck and the Milford - Port Jeff line.
The contest will begin Sat. June 5th and continue through Sept. 30th. Winners will be announced in the Harbor Talk Oct. 6th edition with periodic updates and a photo gallery posted. Note that all State fishing regulations must be followed! (CT regs are... HERE)

Manresa Association Meeting and Presentation
The powerplant on Manresa Island has been decommissioned for 3 years and decisions need to be made for the disposition of the property... thus the formation of the Manresa Association. Their annual meeting will explore the economic and environmental impact of revitalizing the Manresa Island property.
All are invited to the Manresa Association's annual meeting on Wed. June 15 at 6:00 PM at the Shore and Country Club at 220 Gregory Blvd. in East Norwalk. There is no charge for admission.
New information on Manresa is to be examined, as well as a public forum exploring the economic and environmental impact of revitalizing the Manresa Island power plant property.
Additionally, an economic impact analysis assembled by a partnership between the association and the City of Norwalk is to be reviewed by the nonprofit's president, Charlie Taney, with comments afterward by Mayor Harry Rilling. The analysis covers a number of possible scenarios. There will also be a report by representatives of Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Environmental Protection Agency, outlining remediation plans for contaminated wetlands on the 125-acre property.

Close to the Wind - An Exhibition at the Greenwich Historical Society
Through September 4th - Boats plying Long Island Sound were a regular and reliable means of commercial trade and passenger transport. Yet by June 1896, the last market sloop sailed from the Lower Landing in Cos Cob to New York, signaling the end of the commercial boating era.
With the rise of pleasure yachting, new maritime pursuits appeared on the horizon. Yachting soon became both a sport and a leisure activity associated with the grand lifestyle of the wealthy tycoons who built the great estates. Over time, as boating became more affordable, CT once again witnessed a proliferation of boats of every size and description that resulted in the establishment of many organizations dedicated to boating.
Through paintings, photographs, maps, charts and instruments this exhibition will explore the rich history of maritime Greenwich and share the myriad stories that link us to our coastal roots.
