Long Island Dredging Plan Approved
From the Hartford Courant - No one doubts that some Connecticut seaports and marinas need serious dredging if  they hope to survive, but the issue of what to do with the muck that's brought up has created a divide wider than Long Island Sound.
A 30-year dredging plan released last month by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been greeted by applause on the Connecticut side of the Sound and angry denunciations from New York.
The big point of controversy is where to put tens of millions of cubic yards of sand and sediment expected to be dredged up over the next three decades, and how much different disposal methods might cost... See the article... HERE And another from WSHU... HERE

WOW ! The America's Cup Catamarans in New York
Last weekend the sailing  spectacle which is the America's Cup came to NYC!
Saturday was a washout with hardly any wind, but Sunday was bright and puffy, the boats screamed in the puffs and struggled against the current in the lulls. Extremely difficult sailing conditions and admittedly probably not the best sailing venue.... BUT the Spectacle!
The replica of the original America and TWO majestic J-Class yachts were in the spectator fleet with 100,000 cheering observers lining the shore. They'll be in Chicago June 10-12 and live on NBC sports.

29th Annual SWIM ACROSS THE SOUND
St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation, a charitable grass-roots organization, is hosting the 29th Annual SWIM Across the Sound Marathon on  Saturday, July 30, 2016 and are in need of volunteers to help ensure swimmers have a safe trip from Port Jefferson, NY to Bridgeport, CT. This Marathon will raise about $400,000 which will provide cancer screening and preventive education not covered by insurance, and funds other specific needs which include the purchase of wigs, prostheses, medication assistance, free transportation to treatment and appointments, day-care scholarships, support groups and more.
