Is Mother Nature Anti-Boating ?
The lousy weather and rain continues, making it difficult to get anything done... Waxing, cleaning, sanding, open engine compartments - all subject to her whims! Enough already!
Maybe some inside projects can be done now - to win more "boat time" later?

The Global Climate is Changing, and so is Connecticut's
From the CT DEEP: Average global temperatures have increased about 1.5F over the past several centuries. Surface temperatures have risen - sometimes more rapidly, sometimes more slowly - at the vast majority of weather stations around the world and across the United States. These changes often have been especially pronounced since the 1970s. The chart below is based on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data for the Hartford area over the past 110 years. See the CT DEEP (Dept of Energy and Environmental Protection) webpage... HERE

New Study: No Pesticides Found in Long Island Sound Lobsters
If you have been on the water recently you would notice something in the water you haven't seen for a while... lobster pot buoys! After some research, there doesn't seem to be any new news that lobsters are finally making a comeback - even after a harvesting ban that took affect last fall. Instead, here is some news that was released this week:
"HARTFORD - A new study says no traces of pesticides were found in lobsters collected in Long Island Sound in late 2014, boosting the belief that warming water temperatures is the main culprit in a huge lobster population decline in the state.
The findings renew questions about restrictions Connecticut passed in 2013 limiting the use of pesticides that can control mosquito populations that transmit diseases including the West Nile and Zika viruses."
So stay tuned for more info... and watch out for those lobster pot floats!

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The United States Army also celebrates the Army Birthday on this date. Rex Marine is an Annin Flag distributor and can get ANY Annin flag that's made.
See the master catalog... HERE Properly Flying the Flag
It seems nautical traditions and nomenclature are disappearing as fast as new technologies are appearing ! Generations of mariners have created and followed a code of identifying and decorating their boats that reflects "proper" maritime tradition. Observing flag etiquette will allow you to display your colors with pride.
