The Origin of
Nautical Terms:
Ahoy: The traditional hailing call. (possibly XIII century) Hoi is still the blind-corner signal of Venetian gondoliers, apparently having come into use in the early days of these craft. It was once the dreaded battle cry of the Vikings and appears in both Middle English and Old French. Amidships: In the center of the vessel, or on her centerline. (XVII century) The word came from both Germans and Dutch (midscheeps) Anchor:A device for mooring a floating object to the bottom. (X Century) Clearly traceable from the Greek (agkura) and even from the Phoenicians at least 500 years before

Summer Fog - Where does it Come From ?
So you will no longer be in a fog.... (sorry)
There are different types of fog, which essentially is a cloud on the ground which reduces visibility to less than 1 mile. For fog to form, the basic requirements are moisture in the air (the closer to 100% humidity the better) and the air near the ground must be cooled to within 5 F of dew point (the temperature to which air must be cooled in order for water vapor in the air to condense to liquid water). When the air near the ground cools to dew point, the water vapor in the air will become visible as fog in the air or dew on the ground.
During the summer when the sky is clear and the humidity is near 100 %, fog will form. There must also be condensation nuclei (something onto which the water can condense). Condensation nuclei can be dust particles, aerosols, pollutants, or even salt to which the additional moisture will condense onto when the air is saturated.

Summer Solstice - Sunday June 21'st
Summer Solstice marks the official start of summer and this year it falls on Sunday. From a scientific standpoint, the sun will be at its highest point in the sky and it's zenith is at its furthest point from the equator. On the June solstice it reaches it's northern most point and the Earth's North Pole tilts at about 23.5 degrees towards the sun. It is also known as the "northern solstice" because it occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere.
It's also known as the day with the most daylight.
That may be a good enough reason for a solstice party, but the mother of all solstice parties happens in Stonehenge. The gathering will include caped druids, antler-wearing poets and ragged mummers acting out stories. It's one of the rare moments that folks are allowed to stand within the inner circle of the Stonehenge.
