2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season
likely below-normal
This wee the NOAA Climate Prediction Center said the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season will likely be below-normal, but that's no reason to believe coastal areas will have it easy.
For the hurricane season, which officially runs from June 1 through November 30, NOAA is predicting a 70 percent  likelihood of 6 to 11 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 3 to 6 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including zero to 2 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher). While a below-normal season is likely (70 percent), there is also a 20 percent chance of a near-normal season, and a 10 percent chance of an above-normal season.

US Radio Watchkeeping Regulations for
Recreational Vessels in US Waters
U.S. recreational vessels not required to carry radios Vessels not required to carry a marine radio (e.g. recreational vessels less than 20m length), but which voluntarily carry a radio, must maintain a watch on channel 16 whenever the radio is operating and not being used to communicate. Such vessels may alternatively maintain a watch on VHF channel 9, the boater calling channel. Note however that urgent marine information broadcasts, such as storm warnings, are announced on channel 9 only in First CG District waters (northern New Jersey , New York and New England ).

Connecticut Signs New Tow Age Restrictions Into Law
Connecticut Governor Malloy has signed into law tow age restrictions which would require boat operators to be at least 16 years old when towing a person, and also requires them to have passed safe towing education and a safe boating course.
The bill grandfathers in those  people who are under the age of 16 and have already obtained a safe boating certificate. The boater operator age will remain at 12 years and older with education.
This law will go into effect October 1, 2015. Watch for updates.

Mystic Seaport's hosts it's 35th annual Sea Music Festival, one of the world's premier sea music events, June 11 thru 14'th. Fans of traditional sea music gather each year to hear international performers and the Museum's chantey staff perform music from the golden Age of Sail through the best of contemporary compositions.

Horseshoe Crab Tagging Time
When dinosaurs roamed the earth, the Spring moon brought the lowly Horseshoe Crab to the ocean's beaches to engage in romance (of sorts). This year's Spring moon will have them return to Norwalk, and The Maritime Aquarium  needs help counting and documenting it. Sign up to help attach census tags to horseshoe crabs as the crabs come up out of the water to spawn. 2015 Tagging Dates: Tues., June 2 at 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM for high tide census & tagging, and June 3 Low tide tagging - 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM Tues.
