This Weekend - The Volvo Boats Have Arrived in Newport !
The boats arrived in quick succession Wednesday night with a thousand people on the docks and on the point at Fort Adams to cheer them in. They will be on display this weekend with an ongoing party to welcome the teams at their only North American stopover.
Enjoy the Exploration Zone, entertainment, a festival for all ages to experience sailing and many more family activities at Fort Adams State Park. There will be Pro-Am Racing on May 15, the In-Port Race on May 16 and the leg start to Lisbon on May 17 will be held within yards of the shoreline in the same natural stadium that hosted decades of America's Cup Racing - Newport RI.

Update on Local Cruising Spots
This update comes from the Darien Police Marine Division:
Ziegler's Cove is a popular boating destination during the Summer and Autumn months. The scenic shoreline and deep water anchorage attract yachts from all over Fairfield County and Long Island. There are also two islands within the cove, Neds Island and smaller, rockier Pine Island. The shoreline of the cove is a mixture of steep granite bluffs, marsh, and coarse sand beaches. The shoreline is privately owned. There is no public access to the shore.
All boaters are prohibited from entering the property or trespassing on the shore / rocks at any time. Violators are subject to a Trespassing fine in the amount of $92 (53a-110a)
Another attraction to boaters is nearby Fish Island and the Islands surrounding it. They are all clearly marked "Private Property" and belong to a residence located on Contentment Island Rd in the Tokeneke section of Darien. All boaters are prohibited from venturing above the "mean high water line" which typically runs 3-5 feet below the visible "scum" or water line of the most recent high tide. The Darien Marine Police are asking for your cooperation in adhering to these restrictions. Violators are subject to a $92 fine for Simple Tresspass (53a-110a)
Note: This property was the former home of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh and includes 11 acres of land on Contentment Island in the Tokeneke Association including more than 800 feet of direct waterfront, 8 acres of the Fish Islands and 34 acres of oyster beds. It listed for just under $ 20 million in May 2014.

Horseshoe Crab Tagging Time
When dinosaurs roamed the earth, the Spring moon brought the lowly Horseshoe Crab to the ocean's beaches to engage in romance (of sorts). This year's Spring moon will have them return to Norwalk, and The Maritime Aquarium  needs help counting and documenting it. Sign up to help attach census tags to horseshoe crabs as the crabs come up out of the water to spawn. 2015 Tagging Dates: Tues., June 2 at 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM for high tide census & tagging, and June 3 Low tide tagging - 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM Tues.
