Norwalk's "WALK" Railroad Bridge is to be REPLACED

Funding and scheduling plans have been put in place to replace the embattled 118-year-old Metro-North Walk Bridge, said state and federal officials.

The bridge failed twice within two weeks last Spring, delaying Metro-North and Amtrak trains along the Northeast corridor and prompting officials to call for its replacement.

The Department of Transportation began designs for the replacement bridge in July and expects to be completed with the design and engineering work in 2016. DOT hopes to select a contractor by the end of 2016 and begin construction on the bridge in 2017, with a completion goal of 2020.

Safe Boating & Murphy's Law

When running a single engine boat it's always prudent to have a backup plan should an engine problem arise. The Murphy's Law part of such a scenario would have the engine fail in a channel or along a shore with the wind blowing.

When boating, keep this in mind and run on the windward side of the channel if possible. Should anything happen, you'll have time to get the anchor down before being blown onto the lee shore.

It's a good rule for boating, and perhaps for life in general.
