2013 Norwalk Boat Show Summary

The Boat Show was a great success and a straw poll indicates attendance might be up from previous years with the improving economy.

The lines to get on the 93 ft Benetti were constant and "Try It Cove" was busy with powerboat rides (courtesy of Rex Boating Club), sailboat rides (courtesy of Sound Sailing Center) "Sea Legs" demo rides (courtesy of Rex Yacht Sales) and Stand up Paddle Board demos (courtesy of DownUnder)

The Annapolis Boat Show
Missed the show ?

The US Powerboat Show is Oct. 3-6 and the US Sailboat Show is Oct. 10-14 in Annapolis.

If you haven't tried an Annapolis Boatshow, you should !

Protect Your Investment, Winterize Your Boat !

Having your boat professionally winterized and covered is the key to a long life for your boat, engine and systems. Don't put it off, thinking that you will get around to it. Temperatures are already in the mid 40's at night and the first freeze is right around the corner !

Consider having the Pros at Rex or Cove  address your boat's winter needs, even if you store it in your own driveway. The right tools, additives, filters and know-how are key ingredients to successful winterization.

Your boat will thank you by looking and running great in the spring !

Seamanship FAILS - in our own Backyard !

Imagine the joy of going to a boat show on your own boat, getting picked up by a professionally captained launch and enjoying a great day looking at new boats and hardware.

Now, imagine heading back out to your boat and finding that it's not anywhere near where you left it when you anchored !

Welcome to the Norwalk Boat Show 2013 where this happened to at least FIVE boats !

Wind Graph from Sat. 9/21/13

Prudent mariners, take note...
With mid afternoon Harvest Moon high tides and a fast moving squall line sweeping through Norwalk harbor last Saturday, anchored boats started breaking loose right and left.

At one point there were four guest boats being rescued at the same time by the Norwalk Police boat, SeaTow, TowBoatUS AND the US Coast Guard while two others dragged anchor towards the Shore and Country Club beach !

What did they do wrong ?

Put This on Your Calendar for Next Year:

TUGBOAT RACES !

Held each year in early September on the Hudson River, this year's race proved to be an amazing and record breaking day for the Annual Tugboat Race.

12 Tugboats and 1 retired Fireboat raced along the Hudson from Pier I at 72nd Street to Pier 84 at 44th Street.  The fireboat John J. Harvey was not in the competition but lead the Parade of Tugs up the river and raced along side them in exhibition and encouragement.  Also along side the tugs racing down the river was the Circle Line Spectator Boat.   For More...
