A Unified Voice
Every brand must have a voice. A brand's tone of voice embodies its personality, and a consistent tone of voice is what sets a brand apart and makes an impact. Executing a consistent tone of voice is vital to creating a personality that supports and delivers on the brand promise. Without a voice, our ASBP brand is just a collection of products rather than a valuable representation that members can be proud of. Establishing the framework for a solid brand voice for a global society like ASBP inspires members and gets them excited. It communicates why we exist so that potential members, sponsors, and partners can fully understand what our Society represents. Our brand voice is ultimately the influence of engagement, and with everything and everyone aligned under one consistent voice, a unified team with a shared goal is created. The brand voice must be consistent across all touchpoints, from tangible marketing materials to how staff and leadership represent our brand when communicating with others. For ASBP, defining key messages plays an important role, as does establishing an elevator speech -- a 30-second overview of what our organization does when someone asks about us. As part of our rebranding process, we will refine our position, key messages, and visual identity to project a professional, unified voice around the globe. Join us tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET, when we're hosting an online Q&A for members to address questions about the name change and rebranding of ASBP. Follow the instructions below to register for the Q&A session. Questions? Contact Rachel Nevers at rachel@asbp.org. Instructions- Register online in advance to reserve your spot.
- After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing instructions for joining the webinar on July 8 at 8 p.m. ET. The confirmation will come from our third-party meeting host, David James.

Pacanowski, C. R., and Levitsky, D. A. Journal of Obesity, 2015.
The National Weight Control Registry suggests that frequent weighing is a strategy that is employed by people who have successfully maintained significant weight lost. Given that few studies have directly measured this weight-control tactic, a study was conducted to examine how daily self-weighing and visual feedback affected weight loss during two years. The study of 162 individuals showed that those who weighed themselves daily lost significantly more weight than those who were not instructed to weigh themselves. Additionally, men lost more weight with daily weighing than women. Encouraging patients to weigh themselves daily may be a useful strategy in losing and maintaining weight.
Brandhorst, S., et al. Cell Metabolism, 2015.
Aristizabal, J. C., et al. European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2015.
Preventing the loss of fat-free mass (FFM) with weight loss is vitally important, as FFM is directly correlated to resting metabolic rate (RMR). RMR accounts for the majority of daily energy expenditure, and many obesity medicine specialists may encourage their patients to incorporate resistance training and protein supplementation as a way to increase FFM. A study was conducted to evaluate how RMR changes with resistance training combined with whey protein supplementation, soy protein, or carbohydrate. The study found that nine months of resistance training increased RMR by about 5 percent, or 73 calories per day, with no differences between supplement groups. These results suggest that resistance training is a useful means of increasing resting energy expenditure.
