CMA LETTER TO THE EDITOR, GRAND JUNCTION DAILY SENTINEL
|
State threatens own revenue stream by mandating less coal consumption In a published letter to the editor praising the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel's editorial criticizing the federal government for withholding Colorado's share of mineral lease revenues, CMA President Stuart Sanderson warned the Sentinel that threats much closer to home could cut off monies needed to fund public schools and other important government functions. The prime examples: mandates for higher cost energy sources like renewables (SB 13-252) and natural gas (HB 10-1365). Both bills represent direct intervention in energy markets and will not only raise costs to consumers, they will cut coal production and erode the royalty stream of $58 million paid annually by coal producers mining on federal lands. Guess it's also time for the Sentinel to rethink its endorsement of HB 1365! A link to CMA's letter appears here |
