From the Dean

When I worked in IT at Cummins Engine in Columbus, Indiana, one of the quality slogans that got passed around and promoted was "Continuous improvement beats postponed perfection." It was used frequently enough that it's burned into my memory to this day. While slogans and sound bites have their limits, as slogans go this one is pretty good. I take it to mean that instead of seeing the big things you don't have look at the little things you can improve upon every day. Don't have time to learn that major work you've always want to? Learn a page, or a single line, or just a single measure for now and allow that pace to take you to your goal. Can't find time to plan for an entire year? Plan for just a month or a couple of weeks.

Another quote that's tossed around these days is this from Albert Einstein, "We can't solve the problems of today by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." How can we apply this to our own situations? What can we do differently as an AGO chapter to take us forward? What can we do differently as organists and musicians to reach out to our listeners? Focusing attention on solutions can help open up energy and creativity that can take us to great places we hadn't imagined before.
