A small group of chapter members gathered last Friday at the Riemenschneider Bach Library at Baldwin-Wallace University. We were greeted by Dr. Melvin Unger, Director of the library. He had put on display some manuscripts that he thought would of especial interest to organists. Of greatest interest to us was Clara Schumann's Bach book. We gathered around a showcase as a librarian carefully turned the fragile pages and we tried to decipher writing in the hand of Robert Schumann and fingering by Clara. We mused over how the Schumanns and Johannes Brahms had adapted these organ pieces for piano recitals.

I returned to Berea on Saturday morning with Carol Neff and Brian Wentzel to hear the auditions for our organ scholarships. We hear one adult student and three teenagers play on the piano (in the case of those who have not begun organ study) and organ. The three young people were attendees at our Pedals, Pipes and Pizza program. They were bitten by the organ bug there and have decided to study organ. We will present the names of our scholarship awardees in a future update. These scholarships further our goal of promoting the study of the organ by young students.

Regards,
Fern

ONCARD

We have been telling you about the upcoming dues collection through the National AGO. The launch of that system has been delayed. For those of you who can't wait to pay your dues, Hold on! The system will be launched soon and you will receive dues paying instructions either by e-mail or by US mail if we do not have an e-mail address on file for you.

The new system will save the organization time and money at both the local and national level. Locally we will not have the expense of sending out dues notices. Volunteer time by our treasurer and registrar will be reduced as they will not have to enter data, deposit checks and then send in other checks to National. National will save considerable time and expense by not having to hand enter data. We will have total access to our membership data base and will be able to generate our membership book from it. Please be patient in this period of change to the new system.

NATIONAL AGO CONVENTION

Registration for the Boston Convention to be held June 23-27 is still open. You can read about the convention and register at http://www.agoboston2014.org/. A number of Cleveland Chapter members are attending. Join your colleagues for this fabulous convention!
