Jennings, Fern
Fern Jennings

Although the first day of Spring is this Friday, it still seems, as I write on this chilly Monday, that winter is not quite ready to loosen its icy grip on us. The first crocus still seems weeks away. Nevertheless, the increasing hours of daylight lifts our mood, opening us to new possibilities, with  hope for the warm days that lie ahead. Perhaps you are thinking of summer plans, or just the prospect for more out of doors time. In our business what occupies us is Lent and the possibility of Resurrection now just a month away.

My new possibility arrived in the form of a phone call requesting that I accept nomination as Regional Councillor for our Great Lakes Region- Region V. Our current R.C., David Lamb, who recently visited us, is not running for re-election  as he is running for a national office. A previously announced candidate had withdrawn at a late date. I considered this request and decided to accept. I believe I have organizational and communication skills to offer to the region. I look forward to the opportunity to travel in the region to meet colleagues in other chapters. I am excited about the possibility of working with national leaders in this organization I have been a member of for so long.

Because this was a late nomination, my picture and statement will not appear in the April TAO  with the other candidates. It will appear on the election website, once it is active, where you will go cast your ballot. The election takes place from April 1-30. Please pass this information along to others in the region you may know. I would appreciate your vote!

Yours for new possibilities,

Fern

THIS WEEK IN CLASSICAL MUSIC HISTORY

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21st l685, the son of Johann Ambrosius, court trumpeter for the Duke of Eisenach and director of the musicians of the town of Eisenach in Thuringia. How can we organists be other than in awe at this event and rejoice in the life of our beloved composer of music for the organ?  If you can't attend one of the birthday events, do sit down at the organ play some of his music in his honor. Here is a quote from the master:

The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.

Here are two videos celebrating Bach's organ works, one traditional, the other more unusual (You can decide which is which.)
