Our February Chapter Meeting will be a professional concerns workshop. The venue is the centrally located Trinity Cathedral. We will be joined by the Lorain County Chapter. Special guest will be our Regional Councilor, Dr. David Lamb. We will open with a social time at 7:00 pm so that you may greet Dr. Lamb. Following that at 7:30 we will hear an update from him about regional and national affairs. Then we will move into our evening's workshops. The first will be a discussion of Minister/Musician relations led by the team of Rev. Jimmy Madsen and Brian Wentzel, FAGO. They serve as minister and music director, respectively at from Lorain First Lutheran Church. Finally we will have workshop on Resume Writing led by Tim Robson. Tim presented this workshop at our Church Music Conference last spring. Since few people attended that workshop, I have asked him to present it again. In his position as Associate Director of the Kelvin Smith Library at Case Western Reserve University, Tim sees many resumes and the tips he gives will be valuable to any type of position you may be applying for- musical or otherwise. I think this will be an enjoyable and informative evening for all and I hope to see you there.

Best to you,

Fern

PEDALS, PIPES AND PIZZA

Saturday, March 8, at Baldwin Wallace Chapel, Berea

What is Pedals, Pipes and Pizza? It is a National AGO program to introduce young piano students to the organ. Our chapter is co-sponsoring this event with the Conservatory Outreach program of Baldwin Wallace. The program will be Saturday, March 8th from 10 am to 2 pm in the Chapel at BW. It is geared toward Middle School and High School students, ages about 11 to 16, and is free - teachers and parents of the participants are also welcome. AGO is providing pizza and beverages for the for the participants. If you have piano students in your church or friends who teach piano we would be most appreciative if you could email to them the flyer announcing the event and registration form, which can both be downloaded as PDF files at the bottom of the chapter's home page.

Questions? please contact Barbara MacGregor, macmus@roadrunner.com or Nicole Keller, organ Instructor at BW, at nkeller@bw.edu or by phone at 216-310-1694.

TODAY IN CLASSICAL MUSIC HISTORY

On this date in 1724 J. S. Bach's Sacred Cantata No. 155 Mein Gott, wie lang, ach lange was first performed. The cantata was part of Bach's first annual Sacred Cantata cycle in Leipzig for the years 1723-24. Notable is the bassoon obligato for the second movement. Here is a link to a performance conducted by Nicholas Harnoncourt:
