From the Dean
 | | Fern Jennings |
Many thanks to Bob Moncrief, Director of Music at Fairmount Presbyterian Church and to our Sub-dean, Barbara MacGregor, for their work organizing and publicizing the Christopher Houlihan concert. About 125 people attended the concert. A number traveled some distance to hear the artist. The church provided a delicious reception afterward and a raffle was held for Houlihan CD's. It is always thrilling to hear Fairmount Church's large Schantz organ in concert. Add hearing one of our up and coming young American concert organists and it made for a memorable event. Here is a link to Tim Robson's review of the concert in Classical Cleveland.
Best to you,
Fern

FESTIVAL OF THE LITURGICAL ARTS
We received this from Nicole Keller. This looks to be a fabulous opportunity to hear national leaders in music and worship close to home. The cost is only $65 to an individual. Here is a link to the registration page.
Greetings! We are excited to invite you to the 2013 Festival of Liturgical Arts of the Western Reserve (FLAWR), a conference for musicians and clergy committed to creating inspired and passionate liturgy. This year's Festival is entitled Allies or Rivals? and continues our exploration of the relationship between clergy and musicians with a focus on some particular challenges and opportunities for smaller congregations. We are pleased to partner with Lakewood Presbyterian Church, a diverse community of faith serving the community on the west side of Cleveland. Their recently renovated facility is a wonderful space for worship and fellowship and is within walking distance of downtown Lakewood's restaurants and coffee shops.
Colleagues or employees?
Fellow servants or hired help?
Allies or rivals?

TODAY IN CLASSICAL MUSIC HISTORY
 | | Paul Hindemith |
On this date in 1963 Paul Hindemith's Organ Concerto was given its first performance at a jubilee concert for the New York Philharmonic, Hindemith conducted with soloist Anton Heiller. Hindemith was in poor health at the time and died later in that year but continued to compose almost until the end. Here is a link to a You Tube performance with Martin Haselböck and the Wiener Symphoniker conducted by Raphael Frübeck de Burgos.
