Jennings, Fern

Friends,

There is one more week remaining to register for our upcoming "Resources for Today's Church Musician" Workshop which will be held on Saturday, March 9. We are partnering to present this workshop in conjunction with the Cleveland National Pastoral Musicians (NPM). Your program committee put this workshop together in response to a member survey which indicated interest in practical music for church musicians and the use of electronic instruments in worship. The lovely venue of the Ursuline Education Center was chosen in part because it has a late model Rogers organ and a lovely chapel.

Please look over the list of workshops below and follow the directions on how to register. Please note that registrants will receive a packet of choral music to take home which has been put together by Cliff Hill of Cliff Hill Music Co. Lunch is also included in the registration fee of $25 for members. There is a special student fee of $12.

Do join us for a time of sharing of ideas and resources as well as fellowship around lunch.

I hope to see you there.

Fern

LISA RAINSONG'S BLOG

Known to many church musicians as a singer and composer Lisa Rainsong in addition to teaching theory at CIM teaches birdsongs. If you are interested in the outdoors and the world of natural sounds you will be interested in her new blog. Lisa writes:

Hi, all,

I've just launched my "Listening in Nature" blog, where I'll be sharing recordings, photos, and observations from the field and even from the neighborhood. It will be specific to NE Ohio and will follow the natural world's progression of bird songs, amphibian songs, insect songs, and whatever else I hear out there that might be interesting. I'm new to blogging, but not to teaching. I very much want to reach more people with information about what they are hearing - or what they will hear if they listen more closely. It's all about natural history education, of course, and I hope people will become engaged and curious as they hear more of what's going on in nature. My hope is that they will also become more invested in protecting nature's musicians and their concert halls as well.

REGIONAL CONVENTION

The website and registration for the Region V Convention to be held in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek June 30-July 3 are now open. http://www.agokalamazoo.org/. Schedules, information about recitalist and organs are available on the site. They are billing this as a walkable convention other than the bus ride to Battle Creek. Plenty of time is allowed for lunch or returning to your room during the day. A four hour drive from Cleveland with an affordable registration and accommodation price makes this  an excellent value in a close-to-home convention experience for Clevelanders. Did I mention I will be presenting a workshop on Guild Exams?

TODAY IN CLASSICAL MUSIC HISTORY

Here is a performance of the Allegro from Widor's Sixth Symphony on the Cavaille-Coll organ in St. Sulpice, Paris, where Widor was organist from 1870-1933, played here by Daniel Roth, the current titular organist at St. Sulpice.
