While your animal can come back in spirit and guide you, the animals I'm referring to now are the wild animals or the species soul representative. These animals are also referred to as animal totems or power animals.
There are totem animals that stay with you for life. 
- Chances are, if you are really drawn to a specific type of animal, they are part of your life totem. For me, it's wolves, whales and horses I'm drawn to. Anyone that knows me, knows about my wolf connection. I also know that bison and bears and part of my life totem, too. But if a certain type of animal seems to frequently seek you out throughout your life, and you are not drawn to it, it probably is a part of your life totem.
- Domestic animals can also be a part of your totem such as the dog or cat.
- The purpose of these animals is not only to offer you guidance but to provide ongoing support and stability.
Some animals may only be with you for a short time like a day, month or year.
- These animals are significant as their message is timely to what is going on in your life.
- If you don't get the message from them the first time, they often will reappear until you do over a period of days or weeks.
- The animals may come to you one day and appear again years later if you need to hear that message again.
How do you know an animal is trying to give you a message?
- A particular animal species may appear to you multiple times like 3 days in a row. It could be an animal species you normally see but the appearance/situation is unusual in nature. Like I had a different wasp appear to me 3 days in a row in my restroom. I often see various kinds of bees and wasps at my farm but this was unusual.
- You may experience an animal just once that you don't normally see. Like a hawk flying over your vehicle.
- You may experience an animal once that you do often see but it is a unique situation. Like a moth was sitting on my nightstand the other night, just waiting for me.
The animal may present itself to you in various ways:
- You may actually see the animal whether it is walking, flying or staring right at you. This is the most common experience.
- An animal may give its life for you. You may pass a hit animal on the side of the road. An animal may hit your vehicle. It's important to get this message so you don't have a repeat.
- The animal may come to you in non-physical ways such as in a meditation, dream, song you hear or a commercial on TV. An animal may even present itself to you as a vison that looks real. I've experienced large spiders dropping down from my headboard, ceiling and lamp at different times when I really needed to get that spider message. Someone may give you a gift in the form of this animal.
How should you respond when you think an animal is trying to give you a message?
- Look up ____ animal totem on the internet. Find a website you like. I like linsdomain.com.
- Look up the information in an animal spirit guide book or animal medicine cards. My favorites are below.
- Meditate. Connect with the animal and listen for the message. If you see a cardinal for instance, you don't have to talk to it that moment. It can be that night or later in the week. All you have to do is think about that cardinal and connect with the spirit of the cardinal. You will reach that cardinal or the soul representative for the cardinal species.
So just know there are many ways animals come to you. It is important we are cognizant of their efforts and hear their messages. Be sure to thank them for coming into your life.
