  Saint Patrick's Weekly Reminders
January 29, 2015

Please join for worship this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Children's Chapel takes place during the first half of the 10:30 a.m. service. Lectionary Bible Study meets in the Youth Room at 9:30 a.m.

Acolytes are needed to assist with worship on Sunday mornings. Click here to sign up.

Rector's Sabbatical Postponed: Due to budgetary constraints and the potentiality for significant personnel reductions, Mark Forbes has decided to indefinitely postpone his sabbatical which was previously scheduled to begin the Monday after Easter. In time as the budgetary situation improves, Mark will consult with the Vestry to reestablish a new timeframe for sabbatical. Just as was the case this past year, the congregation will be informed well in advance.

Sally Brower Away: Please be reminded that Sally Brower serves Saint Patrick's as a quarter time priest and thus is granted significant flexibility for time off. With this in mind, please be aware that Sally will be away the next several weeks taking personal time for the rejuvenation of body, mind and spirit. This time away was previously scheduled in anticipation of Mark's sabbatical.

Adult Lenten Study: Embracing An Alternative Orthodoxy. Especially with a new pope who takes his name after Saint Francis of Assisi, there is a renewed interest in Franciscan spirituality. Based on video teachings by acclaimed author Fr. Richard Rohr, and with discussion facilitated by our Rector, we will explore what makes Franciscan spirituality so unique and special. Participants should be prepared to have some traditional religious ideas stretched, and may find such stretching unsettling. With this said, however, Lent is the perfect time for stretching our religious imaginations and thereby receiving the resulting growth that accompanies such endeavors. The offering will begin on Sunday, March 1st and continue meeting weekly for a total of four classes, the last class being held on March 22nd. Participants need not attend each class; however, the more one attends, the fuller the learning experience. Each gathering will begin following the 10:30 a.m. service (approximately 11:45 am) and will last one hour. No registration needed.

Gifted anonymously to "the glory of God" we have been blessed with new sanctuary windows above the narthex doors. The fine craftsmanship and sacred design beautifully enrich our worship space. We are ever grateful for the gift.

The Annual Meeting of the Parish will be held on Sunday, February 22nd, immediately following the 10:30 a.m. service. (Please note the new date which was necessary to ensure that Finance Committee speakers giving the keynote presentation could be present). During the meeting, we will elect three persons to serve on the Vestry. Three persons have submitted their names for nomination. Jeff Haas is running for the position of Vestry Leader for Financial Stewardship. John Syme is running for the position of Vestry Leader for Worship Support.  Jan Krumel is running for the position of Vestry Leader for Parish Life. Click on the candidate's name to read their bio. The deadline for submitting additional nominations is Friday, January 30. Nominations will not be accepted after the deadline.

The Meditation/Mindfulness class with Dr. Karen Oldham has been scheduled for four consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6-8 pm beginning February 24. The cost is $180. If you did not previously express interest in the class, but now think that you would like to participate, please inform Beryl Frey in the church office before the weekend is over. Questions about the class may be directed to Mark Forbes.

Are you being called to become a Daughter of the King? The St. Brigid's chapter of the Daughter's of the King here at Saint Patricks Church is an order for women in which each member takes a vow to live by a life of prayer, service and evangelism. Our group meets once a month to pray and study scripture. Training sessions will begin by mid-February and last three months with discernment whether God is calling you to make this commitment. Please contact Rita Azali, Pam Ferdinands, or Sharon Sale if you are interested so study guides can be ordered.

Volunteers are needed to help our Children's Ministries. A new sign up genius for Children's Chapel and Nursery volunteers is now on the church website. Please consider donating your time to Saint Patrick's Children's formation. The more participants, the less often everyone needs to volunteer.

Children in kindergarten through grade 5 are welcomed to participate in Shamrocks, our Saint Patrick's children's choir. Practice will be on the second and fourth Sunday mornings immediately following the 10:30 a.m. service for 20-30 minutes in the Youth Room/Children's Chapel room beginning on January 25th. The kids can sing with their friends while the parents enjoy fellowship in the Narthex Coffee Hour.

We are pleased to announce the 2015 Solas Leigh's concert series. In addition to some familiar artists, we'll be welcoming some exciting new events such as the 13th annual Harp Guitar Gathering in October. So invite your friends and make plans to attend. For the schedule and more details on the artists, visit our website by clicking

Our next evening to serve at Room in the Inn is Thursday, February 5. All slots are in need of volunteers. You can read all the details and sign up by clicking here.

2015 Altar Flower sign ups are now available. If you would like to dedicate flowers in memory or honor of a loved one, or to celebrate a special date, please sign up using the link on our website by clicking here
