  Saint Patrick's Weekly Reminders
August 7, 2014

Please join us for worship this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Children's Chapel will take place for children in preschool through grade 5 during the first half of the 10:30 a.m. service.

The Education for Ministry program is recruiting new members for its fall session. EFM is a four-year program, meeting weekly and covering the Old Testament, New Testament, church history and theology.  EFM provides you with the foundations and message of our Christian faith.  After 10 years of EFM at Saint Patrick's, many parishioners are graduates.  Many of your questions regarding EFM are explained in detail by following this link. If you have further questions or require clarification, please contact Rick Krumel for more details and registration by August 17th.

An Important Message From our Bishops!

"We Can't Do Everything, But We Can Do Something....and Something Matters"

"The whole law is summed up in a single commandment, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" Galations 5:14

There seems to be a proliferation of wars and crises at this moment: the human suffering in the Gaza due to war, the Ebola plague in West Africa and the crisis of unaccompanied children at the U.S. border. And these are just the crises of the last few weeks. Other wars and crises around the world continue, even if they're not currently front-page news.

This can be overwhelming and paralyzing because we can't do everything. We can't fix it all, and we can't solve all the problems. But we can do something, and that something matters.

Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD)  gives us one way, as The Episcopal Church, to respond to the pain and suffering in a hurting world. Our contributions to ERD for these kinds of responses do make a difference. You can even donate to a particular fund, ensuring your contribution supports the cause to which you feel called to respond.

As your bishops, we invite and encourage you to join us by

Yours in Christ,

+Michael B. Curry                 +Anne E. Hodges-Copple

Save the Date!! Please join us after the 10.30 AM service

on Sunday, September 7th. Kick-off for Christian Formation - Parish Life will provide a meat dish, please bring a side to share. Magician and bounce house for the children! Details to follow.

The second annual Ladies of the Church birthday luncheon will be held next Thursday, August 14th at 11:30 a.m. at the home of Judy Willingham, 117 Glen Oaks Court in Mooresville. All ladies are invited to attend and are asked to bring a luncheon dish. Birthday cake will be furnished. Ladies are also asked to bring pennies, nickels, dimes, etc., to put in the birthday cake. Monies donated will be used to buy paper towels for the church kitchen. If you have questions, or need directions to Judy's house, please call her at (704) 799-9734.

How can Saint Patrick's retain newcomers? A small group has been formed to brainstorm possible answers to this question. One way might be to give people opportunities to make connections with others who share similar interests. We have lots of formal groups, but there are likely many parishioners that would be happy to share various activities with others. Some examples might be small groups that enjoy mountain biking, boating on Lake Norman, informal lunch gatherings, sewing, or quilting, etc. If you are part of an "informal group" or just an individual that would like to share your interest with others, please email your interest/activity, along with contact information to Jan Krumel by clicking here. This group will collect this information and make it available to all parishioners and newcomers.

A Taste of Wine on Main St. to benefit the Christian Mission, will be held on Friday, September 5th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Please bring your friends for a great night of wine tasting and strolling through eight great retailers in our quaint downtown. Wrap up the night at 202 N. Main to hear Randall Sprinkle playing guitar! See Mark Fowler or Eileen Kenter for tickets.

Saint Patrick's Foyer Groups are forming for the fall. To learn more about Foyer Groups, and to find out how you can be part of the fun and fellowship, click here.  If
you have questions, please contact Jan Krumel by clicking here

Our next scheduled day to serve as Prep Chefs at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen is on Tuesday, August 12th from 1 to 4 pm. Currently we still have a few slots to fill. We are in need of 6 to 10 volunteers, 16 years of age and older who can commit to helping to prepare the frozen meals for those in need. You can sign up to help by clicking here

Give the gift of life! The Mooresville Habitat ReStore will be sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, August 14th from Noon until 4:30 p.m. Donations through the Red Cross are down approximately 8 percent over the last 11 weeks, resulting in about 80,000 fewer donations than expected. The number of donors continues to decline, and the shortfall is significant enough that the Red Cross could experience an emergency situation in the coming weeks. Make your appointment to donate by clicking here or contact Sherry Klepfer (704) 664-6515.
