Desert Day: An Experiential Prayer Retreat. Saturday, March 8, 2014 - 9:00 AM-2:00 PM Led by The Rev. Dr. Sally M. Brower

"The further you go into the desert, the closer you come to God," says an Arabic proverb. This desert day will immerse us in the spiritual wisdom of the desert mothers and fathers, inviting us into a metaphorical and interior desert. The spiritual riches of the desert will be brought alive through poetry and story, visual images and ethereal music suitable for Lent. A variety of rituals and prayer experiences and a closing Eucharist will invite each participant deeper into an encounter with the holy God. Lunch will be provided. Click
here to sign up and reserve your spot.

Throughout the Sundays of Lent, a Meditative Eucharist will be offered at 7:30 pm.  Intended as a spiritual aide to cultivate a reflective Lent, these services will incorporate candlelight in a darkened atmosphere, meditative music, ample silence, a brief mystical reflection, communal prayers and a contemplative Eucharist.  The service will last approximately 35 to 40 minutes.  Though Christian in ethos, and certainly fulfilling for Christian piety, this service will prove hospitable to those who define themselves as "spiritual but not religious."  If you know anyone who would appreciate a spiritual experience in a meditative atmosphere, please invite them to join us.

To help facilitate the Meditative Eucharists, we are seeking creative individuals to assist with setting up and breaking down the sanctuary on these evenings.  The task will mostly involve the production of candle arrangement and lighting.  If you are interested, please let Mark Forbes know by clicking here

Rector's Forum - Sunday, March 30. In a changing World should the Episcopal Church change? Come and join us immediately following the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Eucharist on March 30th to discuss the future of the church. There is declining participation in all denominations of the Christian church, including the Episcopal Church. However, there seems to be a growing global emergence of many people seeking "Spirituality without Religion." Are there ways for Saint Patrick's to survive or even thrive in such a changing environment? Please join us for just 45 minutes to discuss this vitally important topic.

Important Church Communications policy changePlease be informed that we have a new deadline for the submission of all advertising communications. The new deadline is Monday at noon for the ensuing week. This includes submissions to the weekly reminders, the Sunday bulletin, the website and verbal announcements. The new policy is effective immediately.

The Design Team presented their interiors proposal at the Annual Meeting on February 9th. They are offering a second Q&A meeting on this Sunday, March 9th immediately following the 10:30 a.m. service. They are seeking congregational feedback and invite comments, questions and concerns.

Solace For The Children is one of our outreach ministries. It is a nonprofit that is building peace on a foundation of health by establishing international partnerships providing medical care, education, and leadership development for the children of war-torn countries. On Sunday, March 16th, Sandy Tabor-Gray will be attending both morning services at Saint Patrick's to answer questions about how you can help. For several years, members of our congregation have opened their home for these children during their 6 week stay during the months of June and July. For further information take a look at their website or call Sandy (704) 763-9478.

The Saint Patrick's Senior VIVA group will be visiting the Carolinas Aviation Museum on Wednesday, March 19th, for a presentation of Miracle on the Hudson Flight 1549, which will include photos, videos and actual items from the aircraft as well as the aircraft itself. Come and follow aviation history from its fascinating beginning to present day. For more information, and to sign up, please see Cindi Davis or Gail Connelly following the 10:30 a.m. service.

Our Solas Leighis concert series continues on Sunday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. with a performance by Paul Asbell. A performance not to be missed! For more details visit our web site by clicking here.
