Saint Patrick's Weekly Reminders
December 5, 2013
|
Please join us for worship this Sunday at 8:30 or 10:30 a.m. Due to the ongoing Advent Series taking place on Sundays, Adult Education classes have been suspended through the end of 2013. Sunday School for children preschool through grade 5, takes place during the first half of the 10:30 am service.
Angel Tree update: With only one week left, we still have 12 children who need to be sponsored for Christmas. So if you can, please help make Christmas special for these children in our community. Gift tags will be available in the narthex on Sunday or contact Sherry Klepfer at 704-799-9995.
Building and Grounds will sponsor a property clean up day this Saturday, December 7th beginning at 9:30 a.m. This opportunity is open to all members of the community. Planned activities include: leaf removal, trimming of bushes, window washing, cleaning of preschool wing sidewalks, straining/watersealing of picnic table tops and kitchen cleaning. For more information, please speak with Bob Smith.
Director of Christian Education Permanent Hire. The vestry is pleased to announce the hiring of parishioner Stacey Fox to fill the permanent position of Director for Children's Ministries. In terms of skill set, Stacey is well-equipped for the position. More importantly, however, Stacey embodies a deep passion and love for children. We are excited for her work to begin on January 1, 2014. Please join the vestry in congratulating and thanking Stacey for answering God's call. Also, and importantly, please extend your warm gratitude to Brittany Fowler for serving as our interim director these past few months
Our next scheduled day to serve as Prep Chefs at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen is on Tuesday, December 10th from 1 to 4 pm. Currently we have many slots we need to fill. We are in need of 6 to 10 volunteers, 16 years of age and older who can commit to helping to prepare the frozen meals for those in need. You can sign up to help by clicking here.
Saint Patrick's will offer "A Day of Sacred Silence" on Saturday, December 14th. Please click here to read the details.
Thanks to some very generous parishioner donations, Saint Patrick's is graced to have new liturgical hangings for our sanctuary this Advent and Christmas. During the season of Advent, our altar, lectern, chasubles and clergy stoles will be a highly refined Anglican blue adorned with our traditional Jerusalem cross. This ancient Anglican color for Advent presents a hue of deep blue akin to that which is experienced just before a morning sunrise, which makes it most appropriate for us in Advent as we await with expectant hope the imminent rising of Christ at Christmas. For our Christmas celebration, we have been gifted celebratory hangings which are beautifully adorned in rich hues and patterns of gold. These new celebratory hangings, which will also be used for Easter, evoke a sense of Christ' s rising in all his splendid glory!
As we move deeper into the fall and temperatures begin to drop, we quickly realize that winter is just around the corner, and that means the return of our commitment to serve our homeless neighbors through the Room in the Inn program at Davidson United Methodist Church. Our first evening to serve will be Thursday, December 19th. You can learn more about this vital outreach ministry and also find links to sign up to serve by clicking here
