  Saint Patrick's Weekly Reminders
November 14, 2013

Please join us for worship this Sunday at 8:30 or 10:30 a.m. The Adult Forum in the Sanctuary will be The Wired Word. Please click on the link in the left column to preview the topic. Please note that this will be the last edition of The Wired Word in 2013, as our Advent series begins next Sunday, November 24. Sunday School for children preschool through grade 5, takes place during the first half of the 10:30 am service.

From the Presiding Bishop in response to the typhoon in the PhilippinesO God our help in time of trouble, we pray for the Filipino people who have suffered this grievous natural disaster. We pray that survivors may find water, food, and shelter, and news of their missing loved ones. There is trauma and destruction in many places, and little news from some of the areas hardest hit. Give peace and confidence, O Lord, to those in the midst of the whirlwind. Open hearts and hands around the world to respond sacrificially to the urgent need. Help us to remember that we are connected, one to another, the living to the dead, the comfortable to the suffering, the peaceful to the worried and anxious. Motivate us to change our hearts, for our misuse and pollution of the earth you have given us to share has something to do with this disaster.  Show us your suffering Son in the midst of this Calvary, that we might love one another as he has loved us.  In your holy name we pray.  Amen. On Tuesday, November 19th, the St. Patrick's Viva seniors will be joining the Williamson Chapel EverReady seniors on a trip to the Discovery IMAX Theater to watch the movie JERUSALEM and to browse the Discovery Place museum. Cost is $15 and includes theater and museum tickets as well as a chartered coach. Please purchase tickets following the 10:30 service in the Narthex. Contract Cindi Davis (704) 577-9862, or Gail Connelly (704) 660-9279 for more information, or to sign up.

Advent Series 2013 will begin on Sunday, November 24th. In a change from previous years, the series will be held on Sundays following the 10:30 a.m. service. Here is a brief description of the program. "The Christmas stories are about light in our darkness, the fulfillment of our deepest yearnings, and the birth of Christ within us. They are about us - our hopes and fears. And they are about a different kind of world. God's dream for us is not simply peace of mind, but peace on earth." On Sunday afternoon during Advent, immediately following the 10:30 am Eucharist and lasting until 1:30 pm, we will read selected passages from "The First Christmas" by Marcus J. Borg & John Dominic Crossan, listen to Christmas carols and songs, share our insights and understandings, and learn from each other.  The study will be led by Jean Niedert of St. John's Episcopal Church, Charlotte.  Click here to sign up online. For a detailed flyer on the program please click here. Lunch will be provided.

A word from the church office concerning pastoral care: please do not rely on word-of-mouth or social media networks to inform the clergy of pastoral needs. Such messaging often does not reach us.  Please contact the church office directly if you desire a pastoral response from clergy.

Building and Grounds will sponsor a property clean up day on Saturday, December 7th beginning at 9:30 a.m. This opportunity is open to all members of the community. Planned activities include: leaf removal, trimming of bushes, window washing, cleaning of preschool wing sidewalks, straining/watersealing of picnic table tops and kitchen cleaning. For more information, please speak with Bob Smith.

Meditation for Beginners. Meditation centers the soul, calms the mind, reduces stress, and provides a myriad of other well documented health benefits.  Additionally it is a deep and transformative type of prayer. Having practiced both Eastern and Western forms of meditation for almost two decades, our rector, Mark Forbes, will be offering a nine week class designed to gently introduce a meditation practice into your life.  Thirty minute class sessions held weekly will be complimented with daily suggestions for growing the practice.  Class meeting times will be determined by participants' schedules.  If you have an interest in taking the class, please contact Mark in the church office before December 4th.

If you have an interest in taking the class, please contact Mark in the church office before December 4th.

Our next scheduled day to serve as Prep Chefs at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen is on Tuesday, December 10th from 1 to 4 pm. We are in need of 6 to 10 volunteers, 16 years of age and older who can commit to helping to prepare the frozen meals for those in need. You can sign up to help by clicking here

As we move deeper into the fall and temperatures begin to drop, we quickly realize that winter is just around the corner, and that means the return of our commitment to serve our homeless neighbors through the Room in the Inn program at Davidson United Methodist Church. Our first evening to serve will be Thursday, December 19th. You can learn more about this vital outreach ministry and also find links to sign up to serve by clicking here

Saint Patrick's Angel Tree is coming on Sunday, November 24th.  Gift tags will be available for adoption at both services as we once again make Christmas special for the children served by the Winnie Hooper Center in Mooresville.  For more details, visit our website
