Rector's Forum: A Priest, A Rabbi and A Buddhist Sit Down.
We know what happens when a priest, a rabbi and a buddhist walk into a bar....but what about when they sit down to talk? Please consider joining our Rector, Mark Forbes, in viewing and discussing the recent UNC-TV special entitled ""Sacred Space: The Promise of Peace and Understanding in Our World." Moderated by Laura Logan of 60 Minutes, our very own Bishop Michael Curry joins a distinguished panel of Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Catholic and Humanist leaders to talk about what our faiths share and how they differ - and what we can learn from each other. Run with permission from UNC-TV, the video program lasts 56 minutes. Following the viewing, and for those who wish to stay, Mark will facilitate a discussion on inter-faith understanding. The forum will be held on Sunday, October 27th following the 10:30 am service with the optional discussion session ending by 1:30 pm. Light refreshments will be provided. If possible, please let Beryl Frey in the church office know in advance by clicking here if you hope to attend. You can also sign on Sunday via a sign up sheet on Beryl's desk. This will help with planning.
Five years ago today, as many of you will remember, a beloved member of our community, Jim Cook, fell off a ladder while making simple repairs at his home. Jim incurred a terrible brain injury in the accident. Five years later, his wife Laura offers this reflection on those dark days and an update on how Jim has progressed over the past five years. Thank you Laura for sharing!
On Wednesday, November 6th, Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Charlotte will host a viewing of Traces of the Trade, followed by discussion. Traces of the Trade is an award-winning documentary that follows the steps of the largest slave traders in American history, the DeWolf family of Rhode Island, and explores racism in America. It unearths a hidden legacy of slavery in America, tracing the family's journey through the dark past of the slave trade, which enriched
their white New England family. Conversation will be facilitated by Constance and Dain Perry. Dain is a DeWolf descendant and film participant; both have roots in Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Lewisburg, North Carolina. Click here for a flyer containing all of the details.
