ANNUAL MEETING OF THE PARISH
This Sunday, February 3rd
Immediately follows the 10:30 a.m. service
Please join us for worship this Sunday at 8:30 or 10:30 a.m. Christian Education classes for children take place during the first half of the 10:30 a.m. service. Our adult Christian Education program takes place from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.
In his sermon on January 27th, our Rector asked the community to prayerfully consider taking on his challenge to "Honor the Sabbath and Attend Church for the Six Weeks of Lent." Honoring the sabbath is not a legalistic religious requirement. Honoring the sabbath is a spiritual discipline which enriches our lives. Taking the cultural idol of fast paced and "productive" living to task, Mark encourages us to consider this challenge for the sake of our physical, emotional and spiritual lives. If you are traveling, find a church. If you are sick, get out your Episcopal Book of Common Prayer or prayerfully watch a televised worship service (First Presbyterian, Charlotte offers a good one). In the end, it doesn't matter how or where we observe the sabbath, it just matters that we do it. For more detail, please read a transcript of our rector's spoken sermon by clicking here. Additionally, you may listen to the audio version on the church's website by accessing this link . Lent begins on Sunday, February 17th and continues through Palm Sunday, March 24th. Prayerfully consider the challenge! By the way, did you know that empirical studies show that regular church attendees are happier and more content in life than irregular church attendees?
In an effort to assist parishioners in the lenten challenge to honor the sabbath, and in addition to our customary morning services, we are offering a Sunday Evening worship service. The 35-40 minute service will alternate between Celtic and New Zealand Eucharistic liturgies with sermon. There will be liturgical music, but no communal singing. Childcare for infants through 5th grade will be provided. The service will begin at 5:30pm.
In September 2012 the vestry of Saint Patrick's commissioned an ad hoc committee to assess the staffing structure and programming of our Youth and Children's Ministries. The committee has been hard at work performing their due diligence over the last several months. Please select this link to view the committee's official report which was presented to the vestry on January 28th. The vestry will be considering the committee's recommendation in tandem with 2013 (and beyond) budgetary deliberations. In addition to the written report supplied here, please know that Mason Reuter, the committee's chairperson, will present a five minute brief to the congregation during the 10:30am service on February 28th. There will be a Q&A session with Mason and other committee members following the service.

As you know, Ginger Missert resigned as Children's Christian Education Director effective at the end of 2012. We will liturgically recognize and give thanks for Ginger's dedicated service on Sunday, February 17th. In thanksgiving for her work and ministry a purse will be presented to Ginger at that time. If you would like to contribute, please make a check payable to Saint Patrick's and place it in the offering place on Sunday morning, or mail it to the church office. Please mark the memo section 'Ginger's purse."
